What follows is an open letter from ReformUK.org to our monarch.
To Our Monarch,
Your family and its ancestors have ruled our country for centuries. Britain was once a proud and prosperous nation, and it was under your ancestors’ leadership that we achieved that. But today, our country is no longer proud or prosperous. Perhaps you have been shielded from the realities on the ground, but we can assure you: things are dreadful.
Our country’s problems are not superficial. They are deep-rooted. The very fabric of society has been torn apart. We have no common identity, values, language, goals, or plan. Political leadership is weak and ineffective. Society is becoming increasingly fractured, tribal, and dysfunctional. Policing is breaking down due to a collapse of trust in governance and the justice system. Governance itself is becoming increasingly corrupt because we, the British people, cannot vote in a government of our choosing, one formed in our image, and thus cannot hold government to account.
Your first priority, as our country’s leader and Commander-in-Chief, is to unite us and keep us safe. Yet we are not united, and we do not feel safe. You may not be active in politics, but your loyal MPs serve in your name. Ultimately, you are our leader.
Over the centuries, your ancestors gave the British people increasing rights and liberties, but they didn't go far enough. We now find ourselves in a messy middle ground, halfway between dictatorship and democracy. They gave us general elections, but the voting system that they chose no-longer works for us. It is our voting system that is our limiting factor, what is holding our country back. Our voting system is not fit for purpose, and it must be reformed urgently.
We must do this to unite our people, give us identity and purpose, create stability and cohesion, empower us, unlock our potential, raise productivity and efficiency, and attract our best politicians-in-waiting into politics rather than repel them.
You have the power, through your loyal MPs, to reform the voting system used for UK general elections. However, we recognise that you and those around you have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. It would be unreasonable for us to expect you or the establishment to willingly risk losing your privileges to enact this reform.
That is where ReformUK.org comes in. We, the 99.9%, using the ReformUK.org vehicle, will transfer power from you to all of us—yourself included. Thanks to the rights, liberties, and protections we already possess, we expect this transfer of power to happen peacefully and amicably.
As you see us mobilise and a groundswell materialise, we will welcome the use of your existing powers to speed up this transition. This would allow your family to contribute positively to the process. You may, of course, choose to oppose our progress.
Either way, we will not condemn you or the establishment for your actions or inactions. It is not your responsibility to fix our country's problems, but ours.
When this transition of power is complete, the United Kingdom will become a true democracy. We will not look back on your family or your ancestors with bitterness or condemnation. You were born into privilege, and you have likely acted as most of us would have in your position.
Your family's privileged status will end and will become part of our nation's history. You will become one of us, subject to the same rules, laws, and constraints—and granted the same freedoms and opportunities—as every citizen.
Together, we will stand under a government we trust, believe in, and look up to. You and your family, like the rest of us, will be citizens of a united and proud United Kingdom.
This is our vision. And we will make it a reality through the process set out on our website. We invite you and the establishment to be a positive part of this historic transition.
Sincerely,
ReformUK.org
